Information technology has digitized modern business and modern lifestyles, making both more
convenient. A significant case in point is the advent of Digital Earth, in which a virtual space on the internet was formed around the collection of a massive amount of geospatial data. Meanwhile in the physical world, the Earth is now surrounded by satellites that generate high resolution images of much of the planet below. These are in turn supplemented by mobile and stationary sensors on ground for ・シcollecting social and environmental data. Together these sensors give life to the cyber space and add a level of sophistication to information service.
In order to take advantage of this cross-cutting technology this course will teach the concepts of Digital Earth as well as the principles of its essential technologies. Students will learn to use Digital Earth as a
tool for solving social and natural problem through case studies and exercises. Students are also required to design their own applications with the technology at the end of the course.

Digital Earth is multidimensional, multi-resulutional globe on Web platform. It is also media to bridge real world and virtual world. Since it was born in 1990's it has been dramatically evaluated with the progress of information and communication technologies. It was expected as one of three frontiers in 21 century with Nano technology and bio technology. This course teach the basic concepts of Digital Earth and latest technologies. Students can learn basic skills for using the technology by ArcGIS training. Students are also require to explore the possibility of the technology in your country/ region and your study topics.
